This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +4 more states.
• Establish the vision and strategic objectives for Data Science within the content ecosystem.
• Lead and nurture a team of data scientists and ML engineers.
• Propel applied research from quick prototyping to production deployment.
• Develop and enhance offline evaluation frameworks, automated benchmarking pipelines, and human-in-the-loop feedback systems.
• Work collaboratively across Data Science teams to optimize component and pattern reuse.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, systems, and domains.
• Define and implement the AI roadmap throughout the content lifecycle.
• Design and launch production-grade AI systems, including LLM document understanding, agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, and hybrid ML/rules-based systems.
• Actively engage in coding, prototype development, and contribute to experiments and production models.
• Set best practices for model development, evaluation, monitoring, prompt engineering, data preparation, feature engineering, and reusable platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and product leaders to incorporate AI into distributed systems while ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Convert ambiguous challenges into actionable project plans and guide teams to successful delivery.
• Present trade-offs, alternative methodologies, and options within delivery constraints.
• Mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of Data Scientists and ML Engineers focusing on LLM.
• Foster collaboration with Legal SMEs, Data Engineers, Product Managers, and Design teams.
• Establish evaluation, observability, and ethical practices for generative AI.
• Oversee the infrastructure for continuous delivery and production monitoring of LLM systems.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field is highly preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with substantial applied experience in data science, machine learning, or AI.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI.
• More than 4 years of leadership experience, including direct or indirect team management.
• Proven technical depth, impact, and leadership abilities.
• Capability to select suitable tools and technologies for business challenges.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Expertise in ML and LLM tools such as Google ADK, LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and prompt tuning techniques.
• Familiarity with vector databases, knowledge graphs, and hybrid retrieval architectures.
• Strong background in handling structured and unstructured data at scale.
• Skill in designing and implementing data pipelines and preparation workflows.
• Experience in integrating ML into complex, multi-stage processing systems.
• Working knowledge of containerization, CI/CD, RESTful API design, and model serving tools.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or OpenAI Codex.
• Over 8 years of post-degree experience, including more than 4 years in a data science or applied AI leadership role focused on NLP/LLM systems.
• Prior experience in legal tech, legal AI, or document-intensive domains is highly desirable.
