Senior Manager, Cloud Center of Excellence – Systems Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Establish and enhance cloud engineering standards, architectural frameworks, and operational guidelines.

• Propel FinOps initiatives: oversee cost monitoring, rightsizing, reserved capacity planning, and budget forecasting.

• Develop and sustain a knowledge repository of best practices: including design patterns, IaC standards, common cloud service libraries, and observability playbooks.

• Assess emerging tools and technologies (such as AI infrastructure and edge computing) and convert insights into actionable adoption roadmaps.

• Conduct office hours, workshops, and documentation initiatives aimed at enhancing engineers' skills in cloud-native design — facilitating the correct implementation of best practices.

• Collaborate with the SRE organization to derive learnings from post-mortems; translate these insights into revised standards and training sessions.

• Lead and expand a team of DevOps and Systems Engineers; take charge of recruitment, performance management, and career development.

• Oversee the development, version control, and lifecycle management of shared libraries utilized across cloud services.

• Provide shared platform tools and internal developer platform functionalities; work alongside the Engineering Tools team for CI/CD integration.

• Encourage the adoption of the Arlo Cloud Platform — featuring cell-based, AZ-bounded architecture and semver’d operational baselines — through empowerment rather than mandates.

• Work in tandem with Security and Compliance to incorporate governance into platform delivery.

• Act as the senior technical authority on cloud standards; cultivate trusted relationships with engineering leaders across all teams.

• Represent the team to executive stakeholders; influence investment decisions using data-driven insights.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software or cloud/platform engineering, with at least 3 years in an engineering management role.

• Profound expertise in AWS (including EKS, DynamoDB, RDS, IAM, and Cost Explorer) and IaC tools (such as Terraform, CDK, or similar).

• Experience in designing and maintaining shared libraries or platform SDKs utilized by multiple teams.

• Proven capability to define and uphold engineering standards across a large, multi-team organization.

• FinOps orientation: experience in managing and optimizing cloud expenses at scale.

• Excellent communication skills — capable of conveying technical concepts to both engineers and executives.
