This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Utilizing ISO 8800, ISO 21448, and best practices from the AV industry, formulate a strategy to ensure the safe development, deployment, and maintenance of autonomous systems.
• Establish a systematic approach for decomposing operational design domain components and driving behavior components, along with their validation both collectively and individually.
• Collaborate with software, data science, and systems engineering teams to guarantee that May Mobility effectively trains new machine learning models to address complex challenges.
• Define the safety standards for prototyping, testing, and deploying new AI solutions, along with creating a strategy for data set testing and validation and developing an assurance plan.
• Partner with data science, systems engineering, and software teams to create a strategy for establishing safety launch targets (SPI - Safety Performance Index) across vehicle behaviors and in aggregate.
• Develop and validate the comprehensive functional safety case in accordance with UL4600 and ISO26262, including a timeline to meet the company’s product launch deadlines.
• Oversee and manage the safety plan, ensuring that the schedule and necessary artifacts are fulfilled.
• Guide and mentor the development team through every aspect of the safety plan using appropriate processes and methods.
• Engage with all relevant stakeholders to identify and define technical/system requirements, along with safety requirements related to the safety objectives.
• Ensure that functional safety confirmation measures, such as audits and assessments, are planned and completed.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a highly technical field is preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as an engineer or in Autonomous Vehicle Development.
• Proven experience in safety case management (from conception to release) in any industry, preferably in AV.
• Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.
• Hands-on experience with an analytical mindset and a strong history of problem-solving.
• A palpable enthusiasm for cutting-edge innovations in self-driving technologies and safety products.
• A high level of initiative and drive, with the ability to proactively tackle challenges, even those outside of core responsibilities, to ensure project success.
• Knowledge of Machine Learning & AI Safety, including ISO 8800, ISO 24118, and other relevant industry standards and best practices for autonomous vehicles, aerospace, and/or robotics.
• Experience in Safety Leadership, including a combination of two or more of ISO26262, ISO 21448, and UL 4600.
• Capability to clearly and succinctly communicate technical concepts, including root cause analysis, technical challenges and their solutions, supported by data.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and a proactive approach to learning and self-improvement.
