Senior License Renewal Engineer – Nuclear

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct system scoping, screening, and aging management evaluations of nuclear plant systems to support subsequent license renewal applications in line with NEI 17-01 and contemporary industry best practices.

• Work in conjunction with engineering and regulatory teams to ensure adherence to NRC regulations and commitments related to license extensions.

• Execute documentation for engineering program basis, validate data, track engineering changes, and manage configuration control.

• Outline necessary inspections to ensure compliance with NRC regulations and commitments for license renewal.

• Examine inspection work orders to confirm that license renewal criteria are satisfied.

• Serve as a technical expert while interacting with clients and/or the NRC.

• Stay informed about updates in aging management regulations, methodologies, techniques, and operational experiences.

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, technology-driven practices, and collaborative efforts across different functions.

• Mentor team members in utilizing data, automation, AI, and contemporary tools to enhance workflows, minimize rework, and provide cost-effective designs.

• Lead automation and process enhancement initiatives, which include engineering calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documents.

• Provide guidance on the appropriate usage of AI or agentic AI tools while ensuring the integrity of results.

• Supervise engineers engaged in programming or scripting to automate engineering tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• Completion of academic coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, licensing engineering, program engineering, design engineering, power plant inspection, or AI, preferably in the nuclear sector or a highly regulated industry.

• Proven track record of producing accurate, high-quality technical documentation in a regulated setting.

• Familiarity with engineering documentation systems, nuclear QA/QC protocols, and configuration management practices.

• Strong system thinking capabilities along with the ability to balance innovation with compliance, safety, and traceability.

• Must possess authorization to work in the U.S.; the company does not provide sponsorship for work authorization.

• Preferred: background in nuclear power plant operations, engineering, or design.

• Preferred: experience with NRC, INPO, or DOE regulations.

• Preferred: previous involvement in license renewal, subsequent license renewal, or nuclear aging management initiatives.

• Preferred: knowledge of NUREG-1800, NUREG-1801, NEI 95-10, NUREG-2191, NUREG-2192, NUREG-2221, NEI 17-01, and/or NUREG 1555.

• Preferred: participation and/or familiarity with the Nuclear Energy Institute’s License Renewal Task Force.

• Ability or willingness to spearhead engineering problem-solving using data and modern tools such as automation and AI.

• Capability to oversee automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows, including the review of automated outputs.

• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel automation oversight is appreciated but not mandatory.

• Additional knowledge in computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, or related fields is advantageous but not required.
