Senior Legal Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements and public-facing legal documents that support business operations, growth, and risk management.

• Structuring contractual frameworks, identifying legal and commercial risks, and offering practical, business-oriented solutions.

• Assisting in the design and launch of new travel products, booking processes, payment solutions, and commercial models across various jurisdictions.

• Providing legal and regulatory advice on booking processes, ancillary products, customer journeys, cancellation and refund procedures, and other customer-facing features.

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design compliant business, contractual, and payment flows, ensuring alignment with relevant legal requirements.

• Supporting international expansion efforts, including market entry initiatives, local regulatory assessments, and the implementation of new business models.

• Keeping abreast of legal and regulatory changes across multiple jurisdictions and evaluating their implications for the business.

• Advising on legal and regulatory obligations pertinent to online travel businesses, covering consumer protection, e-commerce, travel regulation, package travel, intermediary liability, payment regulation, and digital platform regulation.

• Offering guidance on payment flows, merchant models, PSP integrations, and the regulatory implications of international payment structures.

• Leading the implementation of regulatory changes, managing external counsel in various jurisdictions, and translating local legal advice into practical, scalable business solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Qualified to practice law in England & Wales, the United States, or an EU Member State.

• Over 7 years of post-qualification experience, including substantial in-house legal experience supporting international consumer technology, digital platforms, or travel technology businesses operating in the EU, UK, and US.

• Significant in-house legal experience within an Online Travel Agency (OTA), bedbank, travel marketplace, travel distribution platform, or international travel technology firm.

• Strong expertise in international contracting, involving agreements governed by both common law and civil law jurisdictions, as well as cross-border commercial matters.

• Comprehensive understanding of the EU, UK, and US legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to online travel businesses, including consumer protection, e-commerce, package travel, intermediary liability, payment regulation, digital platform regulation, and privacy laws applicable to consumer-facing digital services.

• Experience in supporting commercial and product legal matters across multiple European jurisdictions (including both common-law and civil-law systems) and North America.

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex international legal issues and coordinate external counsel across various jurisdictions.

• Excellent project management skills, with the capability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage stakeholders, and drive the implementation of legal solutions.

• Ability to assess, communicate, and mitigate legal risks in a practical, business-focused manner.

• Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
