This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +7 more states.
• Take ownership of and oversee a portfolio of intricate investor suspense files, which include escalations, non-standard conditions, and urgent post-closing matters.
• Investigate root causes, review relevant documentation, and identify the most efficient approach for resolving challenging file-level problems.
• Reassess income, interpret findings from automated underwriting, and evaluate mortgage documentation to address issues hindering investor purchase.
• Validate investor requirements by recognizing absent documentation, verifying whether conditions have been fulfilled, and escalating or contesting issues when necessary.
• Collaborate closely with leadership, loan delivery, credit policy, and cross-functional mortgage operations teams to address documentation, data, and process discrepancies.
• Utilize internal tools, loan files, and investor or aggregator systems to investigate issues, document discoveries, and ensure high-priority files progress toward sale.
• Demonstrate sound independent judgment while balancing speed, quality, risk awareness, and customer impact.
• Recognize trends, propose process enhancements, and contribute to achieving greater consistency in the management of investor suspense files across the team.
• Act as a thought partner on complex mortgage scenarios while aiding in the development of team knowledge, workflow discipline, and overall operational efficiency.
• Over 5 years of pertinent mortgage operations experience.
• In-depth understanding of underwriting principles, income calculation, automated underwriting outcomes, mortgage document analysis, and post-closing file review.
• Proven experience in diagnosing and resolving intricate mortgage challenges through independent research, sound judgment, and careful decision-making.
• Capability to evaluate investor conditions, ascertain whether requirements have been met, and identify the most effective resolution path.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, file judgment, and the ability to function in ambiguous, high-pressure environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling navigation of sensitive situations and effective collaboration across teams.
• High attention to detail, risk awareness, and a sense of ownership in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.
• Proficiency in working across various systems, tools, and workflows, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Workspace equivalents, and mortgage-specific platforms.
