This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Act as AMG's main internal resource for daily HR operations and employment compliance across various companies.
• Stay informed about California, federal, and multi-state employment regulations.
• Supervise OSHA and workplace safety compliance.
• Create, implement, audit, and sustain employee handbooks, HR policies, SOPs, personnel files, and compliance procedures.
• Keep track of changes in employment law and suggest policy or operational modifications.
• Handle employee relations, complaints, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance issues, terminations, and documentation.
• Guide managers and leadership in performance management, employee relations, documentation, and employment risk management.
• Oversee the entire recruiting process, which includes job descriptions, sourcing, screening, interviews, compensation benchmarking, offers, background checks, I-9/E-Verify, and onboarding.
• Manage the bi-weekly payroll process, including employee changes, deductions, withholdings, and applicable domestic/international contractor payments.
• Administer employee benefits and collaborate with payroll providers, brokers, accounting, and external partners.
• Ensure compliance with state employer registrations and respond to payroll, tax, and employment agency communications.
• Evaluate employee and contractor classifications to identify compliance risks.
• Design and oversee performance reviews, performance improvement initiatives, training, and employee development programs.
• Monitor HR KPIs and deliver monthly reports on headcount, hiring, turnover, retention, payroll, employee relations, compliance, and workforce trends.
• Conduct HR audits and support scalable HR infrastructure.
• Assist with company events, team-building activities, and retreats as needed.
• Collaborate with external employment counsel when specialized legal advice is necessary.
• A minimum of 3 years of progressive HR experience.
• In-depth practical knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance.
• Experience in supporting multi-state employees and familiarity with relevant federal employment regulations.
• Practical experience in OSHA and workplace safety compliance.
• Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance challenges, and terminations.
• Proficiency in payroll, benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding, and HRIS systems.
• Strong understanding of wage-and-hour regulations and classifications of employees versus independent contractors.
• Experience in developing and implementing employee handbooks, policies, SOPs, and HR processes.
• Exceptional judgment, discretion, communication, and documentation skills.
• Capability to work confidently with executives while managing HR responsibilities across multiple companies.
