Senior Grid Infrastructure Commissioning Engineer, BESS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Delivering technical outputs for the design, construction, and commissioning of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

• Oversight of commissioning for high-voltage substations, switchyards, and transmission systems.

• Support for the negotiation and execution of interconnection agreements (LGIA).

• Development of RFQ/RFP packages for EPC contractors and engineering consultants.

• Collaboration with Transmission, Interconnection, Procurement, and Development teams.

• Required on-site presence at projects nationwide, involving approximately 30% travel.

• Engagement with stakeholders in ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and PJM regarding queue reforms and discussions on large load policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a preference for Power Engineering.

• 5-7+ years of experience in project engineering, EPC, construction management, or commissioning within the power sector.

• Practical experience with high-voltage utility substations, switchyards, and transmission systems.

• Solid understanding of the fundamentals and value proposition of battery energy storage.

• Knowledge of ISO/RTO commissioning compliance and structures like LGIA/PPA.

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, and SharePoint.

• Willingness to travel about 30% to various project sites.

• Familiarity with AI-driven tools aimed at enhancing engineering productivity.

• A pragmatic, data-oriented approach suited for rapidly changing market conditions.

• Ideal candidates will have held roles such as Sr. Project Engineer, Commissioning Manager, Manager of Commissioning, High Voltage Commissioning Engineering Supervisor, HV Commissioning Engineer, Lead High Voltage Commissioning Engineer, BESS Commissioning Engineer, or similar positions within renewable, utility, or clean energy companies.
