This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Design, develop, and enhance emulators that enable classic games to run efficiently and accurately on contemporary platforms.
β’ Create tools that facilitate team workflows.
β’ Collaborate with engineers, producers, and QA to optimize performance, ensure compatibility, and provide an exceptional player experience.
β’ Manage the entire lifecycle of emulators and tools, which includes development, maintenance, and expansion.
β’ Oversee the CI/CD pipeline, install new tools, update machines, and write and monitor scripts.
β’ Optimize games for performance on designated platforms.
β’ Handle end-to-end debugging of platform compatibility challenges.
β’ Reverse engineer games, fix bugs, replace media, incorporate achievements/trophies, and implement contemporary enhancements.
β’ Shape team best practices and suggest architectural improvements.
β’ Provide technical mentorship to fellow engineers.
β’ 5 - 8 years of general engineering experience, with a strong interest or background in video game development.
β’ Proficient scripting language skills (Python, Lua, etc.).
β’ Strong C/C++ programming expertise and a comprehensive understanding of computer architecture, including CPU/GPU behavior, memory management, threading, and SIMD techniques.
β’ Experience in building and optimizing software across various platforms.
β’ Effective communicator who thrives in a remote team environment and takes initiative in problem-solving.
β’ Familiarity with static recompilation techniques.
β’ Practical experience with reverse engineering and debugging tools like Ghidra.
β’ Genuine enthusiasm for retro games and emulation.
β’ Bonus: Experience with game emulation or cross-platform ports, including making modifications/patches for classic games.
β’ Bonus: Knowledge of assembly languages such as x86, ARM, or MIPS and binary analysis.
β’ Bonus: Understanding of modern GPU rendering pipelines like DX12, Metal, and Vulkan.
