Senior Full Stack Software Engineer – CostCheck

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement features from start to finish: PostgreSQL schema and migrations, Hibernate/JPA entities, Spring Boot REST APIs, and the web applications that utilize them.

• Optimize intricate queries for a large, normalized pharmaceutical data model.

• Uphold a high standard for developer experience and advocate for technical excellence.

• Conduct code reviews and deliver thoughtful, constructive feedback.

• Take ownership of the entire software development lifecycle – from conception and design to deployment and monitoring in Datadog.

• Contribute to the product architecture and roadmap of ShortageCheck, ensuring alignment of overlapping initiatives between CostCheck and ShortageCheck for mutual growth.

• Offer compassionate technical mentorship and collaborative pairing opportunities.

• Advance our AI-assisted workflows by building skills, refining prompts, and assisting the team in maximizing the potential of Claude Code.

• Stay informed about industry trends and incorporate emerging technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer working across the entire stack.

• In-depth expertise in Java and Spring Boot, encompassing REST API design, dependency injection, and testing methodologies.

• Proficient in Hibernate/JPA – including entity mapping, relationship modeling, fetching strategies, and avoiding common pitfalls (such as N+1, lazy-loading issues, and dialect/connection-pool quirks).

• Strong skills in PostgreSQL – including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and safely writing/reviewing migrations against large production datasets.

• Familiarity with front-end technologies: experience with modern web frameworks and integrating UIs with RESTful APIs.

• Expertise in software engineering best practices, including unit and integration testing.

• Practical experience with AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) and a thoughtful approach to where their use is beneficial and where human judgment is essential.

• Progressive experience in analyzing complex problems, devising solutions, and establishing CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within the team and across the organization.

• Nice to have:

• Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries, focusing on building compliant and secure solutions.

• Familiarity with AWS (ECS Fargate, RDS, S3), Terraform, and Datadog APM.

• Experience in building or enhancing Claude Code skills, subagents, hooks, or MCP integrations.

• Experience with AWS Bedrock or SageMaker to prototype the next generation of AI technology for the product.

• Experience working in a multi-repo/multi-service codebase with a shared core library.

• Working knowledge of Python (FastAPI is a plus) to contribute to the ShortageCheck stack.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
