Senior Full-Stack Engineer – Innovate NJ

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Implement cutting-edge digital services that address public-interest challenges for residents of New Jersey.

• Collaborate with product managers, product designers, content designers, and a variety of stakeholders to deliver digital products aimed at the public.

• Write code, convert user requirements into technical solutions, evaluate technical possibilities, and serve as a solution architect.

• Take ownership of features throughout their lifecycle, from planning and architecture to front-end interface design and implementation.

• Utilize human-centered design, open-source development, data-driven decision-making, and agile methodologies.

• Engage in user research, analysis, and synthesis.

• Lead project teams and coordinate activities among team members.

• Enhance the technical capabilities of the team and the State.

• Establish and oversee development processes.

• Work alongside in-house department and agency technical teams.

• Offer clear, plain-language guidance on technical issues to team members and stakeholders.

• Facilitate discussions with New Jersey residents, state partners, and government officials.

• Carry out additional duties and responsibilities that further the organization's mission.

• Report to the Engineering Director and work in partnership with the Initiative Director to ensure team efforts align with the Resident Experience portfolio strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in software development.

• Previous experience in civic technology is highly preferred.

• Proficient in the development stack, including frontend web applications, backend APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and pipelines.

• Familiarity with modern JavaScript, React, CSS, HTML, JavaScript libraries and frameworks, linting, and industry best practices.

• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL document store persistence.

• Proficient in Git/GitHub version control.

• Experience managing the complete software development lifecycle, from initial development to production application management.

• Skilled in writing well-structured code, creating high-quality automated tests, managing infrastructure, debugging issues, ensuring system uptime, and maintaining documentation.

• Experience applying human-centered design, agile iterative development, and data-driven decision-making.

• Demonstrated ability to approach challenges with curiosity, engage in inquiry, and comprehend user needs.

• Commitment to engineering excellence, public service, accessibility, and promoting an inclusive society.

• Must possess authorization to work in the United States.
