Senior Frontend Engineer, Media

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the technical elements necessary for delivering audio and video content at Reddit.

• Concentrate on the web media player and the APIs that support it.

• Create seamless, low-latency playback experiences along with interactive tools for both creators and users.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams.

• Implement product and business strategies while developing innovative products and features.

• Participate in the complete development lifecycle, encompassing technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.

• Design and implement comprehensive end-to-end fullstack solutions.

• Enhance React and TypeScript web UI components for the media player.

• Develop backend APIs using Go and Python.

• Review code and design documents, providing constructive feedback on product specifications and mockups.

• Work alongside client and platform engineers to enhance media performance across Reddit worldwide.

• Contribute to the establishment of developer workflow standards and recommend best practices.

• Mentor junior engineers, fostering their technical growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of hands-on professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Go, Python, Ruby, Java, C++).

• Strong expertise in modern web development technologies (JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript).

• Experience in translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications.

• Familiarity with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and the basics of Thrift.

• Capability to design and implement maintainable APIs.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on time.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to effectively collaborate with teams in a fully remote environment.

• Proficient in discussing complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Understanding of HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, and other streaming protocols.

• Knowledge of video compression standards (H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1).

• Familiarity with background data fetching.
