Senior Firewall Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design, automation, integration, and direct implementation of enterprise firewall and network security solutions that facilitate the modernization of private cloud SDDC initiatives.

• Architect and execute secure firewall frameworks for ECS, CPS, IaaS, DevOps platforms, and SMC.

• Create and implement network segmentation leveraging Palo Alto Networks, VMware NSX Distributed Firewall, Cisco security technologies, or equivalent platforms.

• Integrate security measures, micro-segmentation, identity-based access controls, and defense-in-depth principles in alignment with NATO ON security requirements.

• Work in collaboration with teams across cybersecurity, networking, virtualization, and infrastructure engineering.

• Build security automation utilizing IaC, Ansible, Terraform, APIs, or similar technologies.

• Incorporate COTS security solutions into secure enterprise environments while ensuring adherence to NATO policies and customer security architecture.

• Design and maintain firewall architectures, security designs, implementation plans, configuration standards, and engineering documentation.

• Engage in Agile practices, sprint planning, technical evaluations, security architecture assessments, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Mentor engineers and offer technical direction on firewall engineering and network security.

• Travel to NATO sites for the installation, configuration, integration, validation, and troubleshooting of solutions, supporting deployment, commissioning, security testing, and customer acceptance.

• Assist in cybersecurity planning, infrastructure modernization, security accreditation processes, and proposal development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field with 8–12 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6–10 years of pertinent experience.

• Active NATO Secret clearance (or higher).

• Proven experience in designing and implementing enterprise firewall and network security solutions.

• Strong proficiency with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, encompassing policy management, threat prevention, and security architecture.

• Experience with VMware NSX Distributed Firewall, Cisco security technologies, or equivalent enterprise network security platforms.

• Comprehensive understanding of enterprise security architecture, defense-in-depth principles, network segmentation, identity and access management, and secure systems design.

• Experience in integrating firewall solutions into VMware private cloud, SDN, or hybrid cloud environments.

• Extensive background in implementing security automation using IaC, Ansible, Terraform, Python, or similar technologies.

• Strong knowledge of enterprise networking, routing, switching, VPNs, PKI, and enterprise cybersecurity practices.

• Experience working within Agile, SAFe, or DevSecOps delivery frameworks.

• Background in supporting defense, government, or highly regulated development environments.
