Senior Environmental Qualification Engineer – Nuclear

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with component qualification engineers and professionals from various disciplines.

• Mentor and guide the efforts of junior members of the project team.

• Engage in license renewal and upgrade/modification initiatives for nuclear power plants.

• Utilize expertise in component environmental qualification as it pertains to 10CFR 50.49 equipment.

• Prepare and evaluate engineering calculations.

• Examine qualification reports provided by vendors.

• Create detailed specifications.

• Update client design basis documentation.

• Assist with EQ-related inquiries from clients.

• Conduct Environmental Qualification qualified life assessments using the Arrhenius methodology.

• Revise qualification documentation as necessary.

• Review Maintenance and Surveillance requirements.

• Evaluate EPU and potential accident impacts on equipment.

• Analyze radiation dose influences on EQ equipment due to fuel and fuel cycle modifications.

• May require travel to client and vendor locations for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering with a focus on Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in component environmental qualification activities within the nuclear power plant sector.

• Understanding of nuclear power plant equipment functionality, construction materials, and failure modes.

• Familiarity with NRC IE Notices, Bulletins, and Generic Letters.

• Knowledge of industry DOR plant requirements, 10CFR Part 50.49, Regulatory Guides, IEEE 323, and other relevant IEEE Standards related to environmental qualification.

• Proficient in MS Office applications.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Must have work authorization in the U.S.; the employer does not sponsor work authorization for employees.

• A Master’s degree, PE license, and additional education or experience in computer science, AI, or software engineering are advantageous but not mandatory.
