• Take charge of environment creation from the initial concept and blockout stages through to the final implementation and refinement in the engine.
• Design expansive environments, scenic vistas, and significant landmark areas with a focus on composition, clarity, and ambiance.
• Produce high-quality environment assets, such as modular kits, key assets, and complementary props.
• Develop and apply intricate materials and shader configurations to enhance environmental fidelity and variety.
• Transform concept art into fully developed, optimized in-game environments while preserving the artistic vision.
• Assume responsibility for the assembly of scenes in the engine, arrangement, set dressing, and overall world-building.
• Optimize environments for performance, memory use, and scalability across various target platforms.
• Establish and uphold best practices for environment implementation, including asset setup, material application, and scene organization.
• Work closely with technical artists and engineers to address pipeline and performance issues.
• Recognize potential risks related to environment scope, performance, and production schedules, and suggest early solutions.
• Contribute to visual coherence across the project by maintaining and reinforcing the established art direction.
• Guide other artists through constructive feedback, knowledge sharing, and elevating the overall quality standards.
• Act as a feature owner for the Environment art team.
• (Optional but beneficial) Aid in the creation of lighting and mood to enrich environmental storytelling.
• Over 5 years of experience in environment art for games, including at least one released title.
• Proven capability to manage environments from start to finish, encompassing concept translation to final in-engine execution.
• Deep knowledge of real-time environment workflows, including asset creation, materials, shaders, and scene assembly.
• Strong technical skills in modern game engines, including debugging, profiling, and optimization techniques.
• Experience in creating large-scale environments and vistas with effective composition and visual storytelling.
• Demonstrated success in developing modular environments and scalable asset systems.
• Solid grasp of performance limitations and strategies to optimize environments while preserving visual quality.
• Expertise in creating and implementing complex material systems.
• Ability to balance artistic integrity with technical constraints and production realities.
• Excellent communication skills and capability to collaborate across various disciplines.
• Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of significant features or environmental zones.
