This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the daily operations of one or more software development teams, providing goal-setting, mentorship, coaching, leadership, direction, and performance management and feedback.
• Work closely with the Product Manager on the team to develop the roadmap, clarify requirements, and ensure successful execution by the team.
• Ensure that development deliverables are thoroughly documented and significant decisions are recorded in line with the design and development process.
• Assist in recruitment efforts within the engineering department.
• Help identify process inefficiencies and contribute to the ongoing improvement of design, development practices, and system architecture.
• Ensure adherence to the development process throughout the entire development lifecycle.
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs), monitoring both team and system performance.
• Collaborate with the team to achieve performance, scalability, and reliability objectives.
• Stay updated on trends, techniques, technologies, and other factors that influence the role, integrating them as necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership or management position, combined with a minimum of 10 years in software development.
• Proven experience leading teams of 10 or more engineers.
• Demonstrated skills in time management, project management, and problem-solving.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to various stakeholders, including non-technical members of the organization.
• Exceptional presentation and communication abilities.
• Proven collaborative work style, capable of effectively engaging with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to manage and complete overlapping projects while meeting strict deadlines.
• Strong critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning skills to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
• A strong passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.
• A commitment to finding simple solutions to complex challenges.
• Experience with Kafka, distributed systems, and real-time streaming processing.
• Experience with container orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• NICE TO HAVE: Proficiency in PHP, Next.js, Python, AWS/Lambda, Elixir, building GraphQL APIs (Absinthe), GraphQL schema stitching & subscriptions, GCP, Kubernetes, public speaking, and contributions to open source software.
