Senior Engineering Manager – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee the architecture and technical strategy for designated platform domains

• Convert platform strategy into actionable engineering roadmaps

• Lead the technical design for shared services, APIs, schemas, and reusable platform features

• Evaluate designs to ensure they conform to platform architecture and engineering standards

• Recognize risks related to scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability

• Advocate for reusable solutions and eliminate redundant efforts across product teams

• Direct migrations, version management, and the adoption of platform features

• Assemble and manage a high-performing team of platform engineers and technical leaders

• Mentor and develop engineers through guidance, technical support, and consistent feedback

• Establish clear ownership, accountability, and engineering best practices within the team

• Promote operational excellence, engineering quality, and ongoing improvement

• Balance investments in new platform features with operational duties and technical debt

• Collaborate with other engineering teams to promote platform domains and drive service usage

• Provide platform capabilities that streamline and expedite product development

• Work alongside product engineering teams to grasp platform requirements and enhance developer experience

• Create self-service functionalities that minimize friction and boost platform adoption

• Assess platform success through metrics such as adoption, reliability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency

• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Data Platform, Architecture, SRE, DevOps, Security, and FinOps teams

• Manage initiatives that span multiple engineering teams

• Address technical dependencies and implementation hurdles

• Foster alignment regarding platform standards and engineering best practices

• Articulate technical trade-offs, priorities, and delivery risks

• Ensure shared platform services meet objectives for availability, latency, scalability, and recovery

• Integrate observability, monitoring, capacity planning, and operational readiness into platform design

• Enhance tenant isolation, workload fairness, and platform resilience

• Collaborate with Security teams to create secure-by-default platform features

• Propel improvements in operational efficiency, reliability, and cloud cost management

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing and managing large-scale distributed platforms or multi-tenant SaaS solutions

• Proven experience leading engineering teams focused on platform, backend, or infrastructure services

• Strong technical knowledge in distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native architectures, and shared platform services

• Background in designing and managing highly available production services

• Experience collaborating with multiple engineering teams to deliver shared capabilities

• In-depth operational knowledge of observability, incident management, and production readiness

• Proven ability to mentor engineers and nurture technical leadership

• Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities

• Preferred: Experience in building marketing technology, customer data, analytics, or large-scale SaaS platforms

• Preferred: Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Iceberg, PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar technologies

• Preferred: Experience with implementing identity, authorization, multi-tenancy, API gateways, or workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal

• Preferred: Knowledge in cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices

• Preferred: Experience encouraging the adoption of shared engineering platforms
