Senior Engineering Manager, Payments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with a team of skilled engineers and product managers to develop products and features that drive zerohash’s business objectives.

• Work closely with zerohash product and program managers to ensure the roadmap is clearly understood, enabling the team to plan and achieve expected results.

• Engage with the team in technical planning to ensure that product requirements are effectively incorporated into the technical solution.

• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to advance the technical roadmap.

• Support the engineering team in attaining a high level of technical excellence.

• Manage processes that empower the team to perform at its best and interact efficiently with the broader zerohash organization.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers.

• Assist engineers in creating career development plans.

• Contribute to initiatives across the engineering domain as a member of Zero Hash’s engineering management team.

• Participate in critical technical, design, and product discussions with leaders from our product and operations teams.

• Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders to create a clear vision for your team.

• Oversee the success of your team's projects, achieving measurable outcomes.

• Introduce leading engineering patterns and practices that empower us to undertake bold initiatives.

• Make consistent development contributions to maintain proficiency with our codebase and system architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on building and maintaining robust APIs and SDKs for B2B integration.

• At least 5 years of engineering management experience, including overseeing staff and principal-level engineers.

• A BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience managing teams that have successfully delivered exceptional products.

• Expertise in Golang, with familiarity in Go’s idiomatic approaches and specific use cases.

• Knowledge of TypeScript and React for frontend development.

• Understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, including major protocols (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum), on-chain transaction flows, and common crypto security practices (key management, wallet types).

• Technical domain expertise in Crypto, Fintech, and API/SDK.

• Proven experience integrating with third-party financial services or crypto exchanges/brokerages using REST, WebSockets, or other proprietary APIs.

• Strong knowledge of financial compliance and security standards related to digital assets and money movement (e.g., KYC/AML implications for transfers, data privacy, custody practices).

• Expertise in designing and operating large-scale, distributed systems that manage sensitive financial data and high transaction volumes with sub-second latency and high reliability.

• Experience in shaping technical strategy and architectural decisions for complex, highly-available, and high-throughput systems.

• Exceptional client-facing communication and presentation skills, with a proven track record of representing the engineering team to external partners, customers, and executive stakeholders.

• Demonstrated experience in collaborating directly with external engineering teams to guide complex SDK/API integrations, troubleshoot connection issues, and gather technical feedback.

• Ability to convey intricate technical concepts (such as API architecture, security protocols, and crypto intricacies) into clear, concise language for both technical and non-technical audiences (e.g., Sales, Product, Legal, and external partners).

• Experience partnering closely with Product Management to define product requirements, influence technical roadmaps, and navigate trade-offs between speed, quality, and technical debt.
