• Set the strategic direction for AI-assisted development from start to finish: Establish the engineering-wide methodology for safe and effective AI-supported workflows (including tooling standards, implementation strategy, and user adoption).
• Create seamless paved paths: Identify and eliminate friction points in developer workflows; provide a limited number of highly reliable, well-supported paved routes rather than numerous custom detours.
• Internal AI platform strategy (build vs. buy): Take ownership of the strategy and execution for internal agent runtimes and developer-oriented AI systems (including authoring, review, and automation workflows), which encompasses vendor assessment and integrations.
• Governance, cost, and metrics: Lead governance and cost management for AI tools (including usage tracking, guardrails, and optimization) utilizing clear metrics and frameworks (e.g., DORA/SPACE) to translate enhancements into business results.
• A strong inclination towards action, a sense of curiosity, and a focus on impactful outcomes.
• Proven experience in leading teams that concentrate on developer productivity, DevEx, internal platforms, or engineering tools.
• A history of successfully driving the adoption of new workflows and platforms within an engineering organization.
• Capability to work across various boundaries and influence without direct authority; comfort in acting as an internal forward-deployed partner.
• Excellent coaching and feedback abilities, fostering an environment in which engineers can develop and deliver high-quality systems.
• Experience in evaluating and implementing AI coding tools, developer assistants, and/or LLM-based workflows and agents.
• Insight into when to adopt versus build, and how to standardize processes without hindering innovation.
• Strong background in software engineering (backend, platform, or developer tools).
• Familiarity with contemporary developer workflows and the systems that facilitate them.
• Ability to engage thoroughly in technical discussions regarding system design, safety measures, operational readiness, and trade-offs.
• Skill in converting ambiguous requirements into clear directives and systems.
• Deep empathy for builders and their workflows (including non-traditional developers).
• Experience in prioritizing and communicating based on measurable impacts, beyond just qualitative insights.
• Experience in developing measurement systems for tooling outcomes (such as adoption, reliability, cycle time, cost-to-serve, and AI expenditures).
