This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and develop one or more engineering teams tasked with a vital aspect of the Upstart Bank platform.
• Propel execution across intricate, bank-critical systems including ledgering and funding, deposits and payments, reporting, or integrations.
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, and Operations to convert business and regulatory requirements into technical plans and software deliverables.
• Contribute to the technical direction and architecture for your domain, ensuring systems are designed for reliability, resilience, security, traceability, and auditability.
• Oversee cross-functional dependencies and enhance the predictability and quality of delivery across various teams.
• Establish engineering processes that uphold internal controls, audits, change management, and reliable operations within a regulated framework.
• Recruit, mentor, and cultivate engineers and budding engineering leaders.
• Promote a culture of rigor, ownership, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 8 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years in engineering management.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams through complex, cross-functional platform or infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical foundation with experience in contributing to the architecture and technical direction for distributed systems, cloud platforms, or business-critical infrastructure.
• Background in operating within regulated, high-control, or high-reliability environments where quality, controls, auditability, and change management are essential.
