Senior Engineer – Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the design, delivery, and production quality of platform capabilities from start to finish — encompassing initial architecture, deployment, and observability.

• Develop and sustain open-source infrastructure packages for airgap and cloud-native settings.

• Create thorough tests at all levels — unit, integration, and end-to-end — and uphold the same standards within the team.

• Collaborate directly with product teams and customers to convert mission challenges into platform capabilities.

• Produce technical documentation that includes design specifications, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and runbooks.

• Engage with relevant open-source communities and represent Defense Unicorns as a technical peer.

• Offer technical mentorship and elevate engineering standards throughout the team.

• Function effectively in an asynchronous, fully remote setting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience with a proven history of delivering production systems.

• Expertise in Go and/or Rust; familiarity with Python for tools and scripting.

• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes — including operators, Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), controllers, network policies, and workload identity.

• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts — such as consistency models, replication, failure modes, and recovery strategies.

• Strong commitment to testing — including integration tests, end-to-end tests, and a clear perspective on what constitutes a trustworthy test suite.

• Excellent communication and documentation abilities — comfortable authoring ADRs, design documents, and runbooks.

• U.S. citizenship and the capability to acquire and maintain a security clearance.
