This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Develop and maintain shared libraries that serve as essential tools for engineers throughout the organization, facilitating data access, messaging, service communication, observability, and resilience.
• Design APIs that are widely adopted—your interfaces should be compelling enough for teams to prefer them over creating their own; this entails thoughtful defaults, clear abstractions, backward compatibility, and comprehensive documentation.
• Create multi-cloud abstractions that enable services to operate seamlessly across various cloud providers and on-premise environments without vendor-specific coding.
• Design and implement resilience patterns—such as retries, circuit breakers, load shedding, and graceful degradation—as reusable components that become the standard for all services.
• Develop platform capabilities including feature management, traffic control, disaster recovery, and sharding as modular libraries.
• Take responsibility for the security of shared dependencies—keeping foundational libraries updated, addressing vulnerabilities, and delivering secure defaults.
• Engage in architectural governance—propose, review, and guide RFCs that define the direction of the services ecosystem.
• Act as an advocate and consultant—serve as a trusted advisor to engineering teams utilizing shared libraries; assist them in making informed architectural decisions, resolving integration challenges, and relaying their requirements back to the platform.
• Collaborate with Data Services, Infrastructure, SRE, and Observability teams—your libraries are built atop their platforms; establish strong working relationships to ensure shared libraries remain aligned with operational realities.
• Maintain and operate what you create—participate in on-call rotations, manage production triage, and leverage operational insights to enhance the libraries.
• Strong proficiency in Go—experience in building production libraries or frameworks, or extensive knowledge in designing APIs and abstractions utilized by other engineering teams.
• In-depth understanding of distributed systems—hands-on experience with message brokers, data stores, service communication frameworks, and the failure modes associated with distributed architectures.
• Sensitivity to library and API design—you recognize the importance of backward compatibility, versioning, migration paths, and what constitutes an API that developers are eager to use.
• Experience in cloud infrastructure—substantial experience with at least one major cloud provider, ideally including multi-region or multi-cloud implementations.
• Operational maturity—proven track record in ensuring production reliability for systems you have developed, managing incidents under pressure, and translating those experiences into improvements.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with significant involvement in platform, infrastructure, or developer tools.
• Competitive compensation and equity awards, positioning us as a market leader.
• Comprehensive wellness programs that focus on physical and mental health.
• Generous vacation and holiday policies to allow for ample recharging.
• Paid parental and adoption leave for supportive family planning.
• Opportunities for professional development available to all employees, regardless of position or level.
• Employee Networks, community neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to foster connections.
• A vibrant office culture complete with world-class amenities.
• Great Place to Work Certified™ globally.
