Senior Embedded Software Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain dependable, high-quality embedded software for spacecraft and ground-based systems to support an expanding fleet of satellites.

• Create and implement secure communication features, encompassing encryption, authentication, and key exchange for advanced data links.

• Develop and sustain low-level software components, including device drivers, kernel modules, hardware interfaces, and platform services.

• Generate automated tests, validation tools, and technical documentation to ensure robust software delivery and long-term maintainability.

• Engage in software architecture discussions, design reviews, and code evaluations to uphold software quality and system reliability.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, and advance system architecture.

• Recognize performance gaps, reliability risks, and architectural deficiencies in current systems, driving enhancements throughout the software stack.

• Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to junior engineers while contributing to engineering best practices and development standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in developing embedded software for intricate, high-reliability systems.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles, including system design, debugging, testing, performance analysis, and the development of maintainable code.

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, including concurrency, interrupt management, memory-mapped peripherals, and hardware communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN.

• Experience in developing software for embedded Linux and/or RTOS environments, with knowledge of build systems like Yocto/OpenEmbedded and operating systems such as FreeRTOS.

• Experience in creating low-level embedded Linux components, including kernel modules, device drivers, and device tree integrations.

• Experience in developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks, validation tools, or hardware/software integration test environments.

• Strong collaboration and communication skills across functions, with the ability to work effectively among software, hardware, and operations teams.

• Proficiency with contemporary software development workflows and tools, including Git-based version control and code review practices.
