
Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Serve as the technical leader/technical director for the project: create the statement of work, schedule planning, budget management, and oversee engineering activities and deliverables.
• Offer technical guidance and work collaboratively with proposal teams, cost estimators, partners, clients, GE teams (including product engineering, EHS, quality, project management), and engineering subcontractors.
• Take responsibility for designing all activities in compliance with applicable codes and standards, including GE Grid Solutions policies and procedures, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and high quality.
• Have extensive knowledge of substation equipment and associated disciplines (AIS & GIS, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors, busbar design, protection & control, high-voltage equipment).
• Basic knowledge of civil engineering is required.
• In partnership with engineering teams, design or supervise the design of utility and industrial substations: including single-line diagrams, general arrangements, specifications, outdoor equipment layouts, building configurations, auxiliary power, cable routing design, and all related studies/calculations.
• Create and execute an effective tracking system to monitor the progress of engineering tasks, timely deliverables, and management of client feedback.
• Manage technical risks: recommend and implement design strategies, organize and conduct design and safety reviews.
• Identify, monitor, and mitigate risks.
• Employ critical thinking to solve complex technological or engineering challenges.
• Act as a mentor to less experienced colleagues; clarify challenging or sensitive topics and help facilitate agreement.
• Cultivate influencing skills to engage the project team, clients, and stakeholders.
• Identify, report, and suggest corrective measures in the event of significant scope, budget, or schedule changes.
• Establish processes and procedures to enhance quality and productivity.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• At least 15 years of relevant experience.
• Possess a professional engineering license from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and be prepared to review and stamp engineering documents in line with Quebec regulations.
• Dedication to obtaining and maintaining the P.Eng. designation.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada; any job offer is contingent upon successful pre-employment screening.
• Bilingual (French/English) – both spoken and written.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel, and adhere to company travel and tax policies.
