
Senior Electrical Substation Design Project Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and oversee all technical facets of AC power substation projects.
• Execute substation design and act as the principal technical authority.
• Manage scheduling, adherence to standards and specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and quality assurance and control.
• Create and supervise power single-line diagrams, substation layout drawings, high-voltage bus and equipment configurations, and related design outputs.
• Serve as the technical liaison among customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams.
• Direct and support engineers, designers, and subcontracted personnel.
• Promote cross-discipline collaboration for cohesive substation solutions.
• Review and contribute to conceptual engineering, proposal documentation, BOMs, technical specifications, sourcing support, vendor quote assessments, and technical clarifications.
• Draft high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes.
• Assist with vendor engagement and selection of equipment.
• Lead subcontracted design work scopes when required.
• Aid in team productivity and billable utilization.
• Ensure engineering outputs align with customer CTQs and are delivered punctually and within budget.
• Support commissioning and manage interfaces between customers and project stakeholders.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally, in accordance with company travel and tax policies.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with the ability to obtain licensure in other states.
• Willingness to review and seal drawings under their oversight.
• Familiarity with EHV substation design standards.
• Proficiency in transmission and distribution substation engineering for utility and renewable energy.
• Expertise in primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection.
• Experience in industrial power system design at 12.5 kV and above.
• Knowledgeable in battery sizing, DC system design, AC auxiliary power, transformer and circuit breaker selection, conductor sizing, grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination.
• Understanding of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Capability to develop comprehensive engineering packages without detailed customer specifications.
• Experience in field-testing and commissioning with a strong focus on safety.
• Strong skills in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Excellent customer-facing communication and commercial awareness, including change orders and project delivery.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and design automation tools.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
