
Senior Electrical Substation Design Project Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and manage all technical elements of AC power substation projects.
• Execute substation design personally and act as the chief technical authority.
• Oversee scheduling, adherence to standards/specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and quality assurance/control.
• Create and supervise power single-line diagrams, substation layout drawings, high-voltage bus and equipment configurations, and associated design outputs.
• Act as the technical liaison for clients, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams.
• Guide and assist engineers, designers, and subcontracted personnel.
• Promote cross-discipline collaboration for comprehensive substation solutions.
• Evaluate and contribute to conceptual engineering and proposal outputs.
• Aid in sourcing, vendor quotation assessments, technical clarifications, and assumptions.
• Manage specifications for high-voltage equipment and contractor work scopes.
• Support vendor engagement and selection of equipment.
• Contribute to team productivity and billable utilization.
• Ensure that engineering deliverables align with customer CTQs and project timeline/budget requirements.
• Assist in commissioning and facilitate interactions with customers/project stakeholders.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of pertinent experience.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including internationally.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in good standing in the U.S., with the capability to obtain licensure in other states.
• Openness to review and seal drawings under their supervision.
• Familiarity with EHV substation design standards.
• Expertise in transmission and distribution substation engineering for utility and renewable energy.
• Proficient in primary outdoor substation design, calculations, and electrical protection.
• Experience with industrial power system design at 12.5 kV and above.
• Skilled in battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power calculations.
• Competent in selecting power transformers and circuit breakers.
• Knowledgeable in conductor sizing and application.
• Proficient in grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination.
• Understanding of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Field-testing and commissioning experience with a strong focus on safety.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in both electrical and mechanical aspects.
• Excellent communication skills with an understanding of commercial contexts.
• Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and design automation tools.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
