This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• As the business portfolio of Grid Solutions Integration in the NAM Region expands, along with the increasing complexity and scope of customer projects, the Project Engineering Manager will lead a multidisciplinary technical project team and contractors while coordinating with vendors and maintaining a professional interface with customers.
• The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the entire substation design, ensuring accountability for their performance.
• The PEM conducts comprehensive quality reviews, provides technical guidance, and collaborates with the Project Manager regarding scheduling and budgeting.
• Responsible for leading and coordinating all technical elements of AC power substation projects.
• Acts as the primary technical authority, overseeing scheduling, adherence to standards and specifications, value engineering, design review planning, and guaranteeing quality assurance and control.
• Develops and supervises critical design deliverables, such as: Power single-line diagrams, general substation arrangement drawings (including plans & layouts, elevations, grounding, conduit/trench designs, cable routing, detailed drawings, and control building layouts), high-voltage bus configurations, structures, equipment, and wiring arrangements.
• Serves as the sole point of contact for all technical issues among customers, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams.
• Responsible for guiding and supporting engineers and designers to fulfill technical specifications, budget limits, and project schedules, which encompasses managing subcontracted resources.
• Facilitates cross-discipline coordination to provide fully integrated substation solutions.
• Reviews and contributes to ITO (Inquiry-to-Order) process deliverables, including: Conceptual engineering, proposal documentation (e.g., BOMs, technical specifications), sourcing support, vendor quotation evaluations, and technical clarifications & assumptions.
• Leads the preparation of high-voltage equipment specifications and contractor work scopes; supports vendor engagement and equipment selection.
• May be required to oversee a subcontracted design work scope.
• Assists the manager in enhancing team productivity and billable utilization.
• Ensures that all engineering outputs comply with customer CTQs (Critical to Quality) and are delivered punctually and within budget.
• Supports commissioning and interfaces between customers and project stakeholders.
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in industrial or utility High Voltage (+138kV) substation design, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with over 10 years of relevant experience.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% (including internationally), adhering to company travel and tax policies.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. in good standing, with the potential for obtaining licensure in other states.
• Experience with EHV substation design standards.
• Demonstrated expertise in: Transmission & Distribution substation engineering (both utility and renewable energy).
• Knowledge in primary (outdoor) substation design, calculations, and electrical protection.
• Proficient in industrial power system design (12.5 kV and above).
• Skilled in key design calculations such as: Battery sizing, DC system design, and AC auxiliary power.
• Experience in power transformer and circuit breaker selection.
• Knowledge of conductor sizing and application.
• Expertise in grounding, lightning protection, and insulation coordination.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards; capable of developing comprehensive engineering packages even in the absence of detailed customer specifications.
• Field-testing and commissioning experience, with a strong focus on safety.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in both electrical and mechanical domains.
• Excellent communication skills for customer-facing interactions and commercial awareness (e.g., change orders, project delivery).
• Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and design automation tools.
