This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Design, develop, and maintain electrical control systems and components, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality, and sustainability.
• Choose components and equipment based on specifications and reliability evaluations.
• Execute engineering and design tasks for electronic systems in unmanned aircraft vehicles.
• Carry out detailed design, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic and mechanical components, equipment, and subsystems.
• Offer electronic engineering support for research and development projects.
• Oversee manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities.
• Inspect completed installations and monitor operations to ensure compliance with design, equipment, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with avionics, embedded systems, and RF links; assist with flight test operations as required.
• Document designs through engineering drawings and written descriptions.
• Conduct design and analysis tasks while contributing to budgeting and cost estimation.
• Identify root causes of critical issues and recommend alternative solutions through research and re-engineering.
• Make intricate design decisions that align with requirements and influence project costs and timelines.
• Provide technical oversight across various disciplines and lead a small team or project.
• May oversee the work of others.
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• A minimum of 8–12 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with office software, computer-based productivity tools, and specialized software tools relevant to the field.
• Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Background in one or more areas including Radio Frequency (RF), embedded control, or FPGA.
• Familiarity with power electronics, motors, and battery technologies, such as lead acid, nickel metal hydride, and lithium-ion batteries.
• Capability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Knowledge of industry protocols such as LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, and USB.
• Understanding of engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, and material properties.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% for flight test operations.
• A clean driving record.
• Ability to qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or acquire an export license; some roles may require current U.S. citizenship.
• An advanced degree is preferred.
• Experience with flight tests or R/C activities and practical tool experience are advantageous.
• Familiarity with small UAV subsystems and related software is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
