This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Senior Director of Software Development is tasked with overseeing the engineering team for Follett Software’s library portfolio.
• This position integrates engineering leadership across various library products and shared platform functionalities.
• The Senior Director offers both strategic and operational guidance throughout the complete software development lifecycle.
• They will manage development managers and engineers who are responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
• This leader collaborates closely with Product, Design, QA, Cloud Engineering, Technical Support, and customer-facing teams to convert business priorities into engineering initiatives.
• They propel technical strategy and architectural modernization while balancing product innovation, platform stability, customer obligations, and operational excellence across the entire library suite.
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Over 12 years of leadership experience in software development, including substantial roles in senior engineering leadership with oversight of multiple teams and/or product lines.
• Demonstrated success in leading extensive or multi-product engineering functions, including direct reports who are also leaders.
• Significant experience in delivering and supporting commercial software products in a SaaS, web application, or hybrid software setting.
• A solid technical foundation in modern software engineering methodologies, with enough depth to effectively guide teams working across various technology stacks, such as Java, J2EE, .Net, service integrations, SQL Server, JavaScript, Git-based workflows, and Jira or similar development tools.
• Experience in steering modernization initiatives in environments that incorporate legacy technologies like Java, J2EE, .Net, JBoss, WildFly, SQL, jQuery, or third-party UI frameworks, while transitioning teams towards more scalable and maintainable practices.
• Knowledge of Azure or similar cloud platforms, CI/CD methodologies, automated testing, release management, and secure software development principles.
• Proven ability to balance strategic thought with operational execution in a dynamic, multi-product environment.
• Strong leadership capabilities with the proficiency to influence across various functions, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and lead through transitions.
• Experience in setting direction through metrics, managing budgets and resources, and making decisions based on data.
• Excellent judgment, emotional intelligence, and a proven track record of fostering healthy, accountable, high-performing teams.
