Senior Director, Product Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversees the Product Engineering division at JD Power.

• Develops, levels, and nurtures the leadership pipeline across various product portfolios.

• Takes ownership of the hiring strategy for Product Engineering and collaborates with Talent Acquisition on sourcing, leveling, and selection processes.

• Establishes performance benchmarks, addresses underperformance, and facilitates calibration throughout the organization.

• Defines and articulates the organizational structure, role definitions, and career pathways for engineers and engineering managers.

• Implements and maintains a standardized engineering operating model across portfolios.

• Promotes ongoing enhancement of DORA and other relevant metrics for applicable products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of experience in software engineering, including a minimum of 8 years in managerial roles and at least 5 years in managing managers.

• Proven experience in leading an engineering organization of over 75 individuals, including a director or senior director leadership team.

• Evidence of turnaround or stabilization success — has taken over an underperforming or unstable engineering organization and improved delivery, quality, and team dynamics with measurable outcomes.

• Proven track record of launching data and analytics products at scale — including SaaS analytics, insights, data-intensive enterprise products, or comparable offerings.

• Has established and upheld a consistent engineering operating model across various product lines or business units.

• Strong executive presence; effective in communicating with non-engineering stakeholders and executive peers.

• Experienced in hiring, leveling, performance management, and transitioning director-level engineering leaders.
