This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Senior Director of Patient Engagement is responsible for leading NKF’s strategy for patient engagement, ensuring that the perspectives of patients are effectively incorporated into research, policy, advocacy, education, and program development.
• This position involves building and managing relationships with patients, care partners, volunteers, and external stakeholders to promote patient-centered initiatives throughout the kidney community.
• Collaborating with various NKF teams and external partners, the Senior Director creates engagement opportunities through advisory boards, focus groups, surveys, and interviews; recruits and supports patient volunteers; and assists in establishing best practices for meaningful patient collaboration.
• Act as an NKF spokesperson regarding patient engagement, patient-centered programs, kidney disease care, and treatment when relevant.
• In partnership with the Kidney Learning Solutions (KLS) team and other cross-functional teams, provide consulting and support for patient-centered programs and services aimed at educating, empowering, and assisting individuals impacted by kidney disease.
• Collaborate with Government Relations, as necessary, to promote initiatives and policies that aid individuals affected by chronic kidney disease and dialysis, including the analysis of legislation and regulatory proposals that impact constituents.
• A Master’s degree from an accredited institution is required; a Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Social Work (MSW) is preferred.
• At least five (5) years of relevant experience in a complex nonprofit organization is necessary.
• Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and coalition-building are essential.
• Experience with patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) and patient/public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is required.
• Proven experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, data analysis, and impact measurement.
• A demonstrated track record in strategic planning, program development, and implementation is crucial.
• Ability to translate complex medical and scientific terminology into language that is accessible to patients.
• Exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills are required.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, consultation, and planning skills are needed.
• Preferred experience in volunteer engagement, advisory boards, community outreach, and digital engagement strategies.
• Knowledge of the current healthcare landscape, including trends, challenges, policies, and issues affecting patients and healthcare professionals is important.
• Experience in promoting health equity initiatives and engaging historically underrepresented and underserved communities is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated capability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an integrated, cross-functional team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, databases, social media platforms, and digital collaboration tools is expected.
• Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight and weekend trips as required (approximately five trips annually), and to work additional hours when necessary.
• Standard office technology and collaboration tools are utilized on a daily basis.
