Senior Director, Applied Science and Technology Policy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of APA’s applied science and technology advocacy portfolio.

• Designs and spearheads advocacy campaigns that promote evidence-informed federal technology policy.

• Establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders in the executive branch and Congress.

• Prepares and negotiates high-stakes advocacy documents for a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Monitors and evaluates federal legislation and regulations for their implications on psychology.

• Acts as the primary advocacy partner for members of the Psychology Team.

• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to further APA’s priorities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in a significant role working with government, Congress, or in the private sector.

• A master's degree or another advanced degree is mandatory; a doctoral degree is highly preferred.

• Direct experience in legislative and regulatory processes.

• Proficiency in science and emerging technology policy, AI governance, online safety, workplace mental health, neuroscience ethics, and related areas.

• Experience in drafting and collaborating with employers and other stakeholders.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

• Advanced skills in advocacy platforms (CQ Engage).

• Basic familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube).

• Working knowledge of cutting-edge AI platforms.
