This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• This position calls for a leader who possesses extensive technical expertise in enterprise AI platforms and the strategic insight to evaluate every platform offered by EPEO — encompassing top AI and cloud platform providers — to determine the role of AI, the necessary changes, and the pathway for the organization to achieve these goals.
• The Senior Director of AI Platform Engineering & Enablement has two balanced responsibilities. From an engineering perspective, this leader utilizes profound technical judgment to assess, design, and oversee the integration of AI capabilities across EPEO’s platform portfolio — ensuring that the deployed capabilities are appropriate, well-engineered, and aligned with the business functions they support.
• On the enablement front, this leader guarantees that AI capabilities from our primary providers are not only acquired but also actively implemented, governed, and woven into the operational fabric of our platforms.
• Over 12 years of experience in technology, with substantial hands-on involvement in platform strategy, enterprise architecture, or leadership in AI infrastructure.
• Extensive knowledge of the enterprise AI provider landscape encompassing leading cloud platforms, enterprise AI assistants, productivity platforms, and frontier AI model providers — capable of evaluating technical capabilities and architectural suitability beyond just vendor positioning.
• Proven experience in assessing and rationalizing AI portfolios on an enterprise scale — having analyzed a large organization's AI landscape, identified essential components, and provided actionable recommendations across business functions.
• Practical experience in cloud platform architecture sufficient to critically evaluate AI capabilities at an architectural level — going beyond vendor positioning.
• Experience in designing or governing enterprise AI governance, FinOps, and enablement frameworks from inception — not merely maintaining inherited systems, but actively building and establishing them.
• Strong comprehension of LLM architecture, agentic patterns, RAG, multi-model orchestration, and AI infrastructure primitives at an enterprise scale.
• A strategic leader who merges technical credibility with the capacity to foster organizational change through influence.
• Demonstrated capability to maintain a long-term perspective in a rapidly changing technological environment — balancing a multi-year strategic vision while being responsive to an evolving AI landscape.
• Experience leading within large, matrixed engineering organizations (5,000+ engineers) where influence without direct authority is essential for achieving results.
• A genuine intellectual curiosity regarding the AI frontier — actively following research, engaging with vendors at a technical level, forming independent opinions, and rarely being surprised by new developments.
• A strong record of managing strategic AI vendor relationships with hyperscalers and AI-native firms at both the architectural and roadmap levels.
• Experience within a Fortune 500 or large-scale enterprise environment that involves complex regulatory, compliance, and security considerations.
• Proven ability to create business cases for multi-million dollar AI platform investments and communicate effectively with C-suite and board-level stakeholders.
