Senior Director, AI Engineering – Agentic AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to create AI-driven products.

• Supervise the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, which encompass foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.

• Make strategic decisions regarding build-versus-buy options for open-source and SaaS AI technologies.

• Innovate and implement foundation model optimization techniques to enhance scalability, cost-efficiency, latency, and throughput of production AI systems.

• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term strategic roadmap of foundational AI systems.

• Attract and retain AI talent while fostering personal and professional growth among team members.

• Define and lead the enterprise-wide AI strategy across product, research, risk, and data organizations.

• Establish a multi-year plan for scalable, reliable, and compliant enterprise AI infrastructure.

• Advocate for responsible, ethical, transparent, and explainable AI practices.

• Oversee AI operations, including model lifecycle management, observability, and cost-effectiveness across numerous production use cases.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields, accompanied by a minimum of 10 years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies; or a Master's degree in a related field with at least 8 years of experience.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in people leadership.

• Over 7 years of experience in managing and leading an engineering team.

• More than 8 years of experience in deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud.

• Experience in developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, including LLM inference, similarity search, VectorDBs, guardrails, and memory techniques.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, C#, Java, CUDA, or Golang.

• Experience in building agentic AI systems and developing agentic workflows.

• Capability to apply innovative AI research techniques in production settings.

• Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.

• Experience in leading leaders and managing multiple AI engineering organizations across product, platform, and applied research sectors.

• Proven track record in constructing enterprise-scale AI platforms that serve varied business lines and customer use cases.

• Ability to influence executive leadership regarding AI investment strategies, organizational design, and risk management priorities.

• Experience in establishing external partnerships or demonstrating thought leadership within the AI industry, academia, or open-source communities.

• Expertise in optimizing models, instance counts, and hardware types based on system requirements.

• Willingness to adhere to applicable employment authorization requirements.
