Senior DevOps Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance the edge proxy platform by maintaining, upgrading, and expanding a high-performance reverse proxy.

• Develop and sustain cloud infrastructure as code by designing and implementing Terraform/Terragrunt modules.

• Manage large-scale Kubernetes clusters by overseeing multi-region, multi-cluster EKS deployments using FluxCD.

• Create and manage CI/CD pipelines by designing, maintaining, and refining shared GitLab CI/CD pipeline templates.

• Reduce operational toil through the development and maintenance of tooling for various tasks.

• Oversee observability and on-call duties by provisioning and maintaining Datadog SLOs.

• Assist with FedRAMP/GovCloud operations by managing the GovCloud environment.

• Assess and integrate internal developer tools by conducting research, prototyping, and promoting adoption.

• Mentor and collaborate with team members through code reviews.

• Strategically implement AI tools within the team's domain to enhance project execution.

• Maintain a focused and independent approach when troubleshooting complex incidents.

• Exhibit resilience and composure while navigating ambiguous or high-pressure operational circumstances.

• Engage in standard sedentary work involving prolonged screen use within a remote environment.

• Operate within Smartsheet's fully remote, geographically distributed team structure.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering.

• A BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

• Advanced proficiency with Terraform and Terragrunt for managing production cloud infrastructure at scale.

• Strong expertise in Kubernetes, including EKS cluster operations and Helm chart authoring.

• Practical experience with AWS networking and container workload services: EKS, ALB/NLB, VPC, IAM, ECR, Route53, CloudWatch, and EventBridge.

• Proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language, with a preference for Go or Python.

• Solid understanding of reverse proxies, API gateways, or load balancers.

• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitLab CI.

• Familiarity with container image security practices.

• Strong operational instincts, including comfort with on-call responsibilities.

• Proven ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

• Capacity to handle and document sensitive operational and compliance-related information with discretion.

• Awareness of the operational context influencing infrastructure decisions.

• At least 1 year of professional experience utilizing AI-based workflows.

• Proficiency in English is required.

• Legal eligibility to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis.
