This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.
• Take complete ownership of Primer's internal developer platform from start to finish: managing the CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows (canary, blue/green), self-service tools, and ephemeral environments that are essential for every engineer to deliver their work.
• Develop the human-AI development loop, which is the most flexible aspect of the role: creating the tools and automation that enable engineers to collaborate effectively with coding agents, and establishing patterns that ensure agent-driven workflows are both efficient and secure at Primer.
• Approach developer productivity as a quantifiable system. Monitor it, identify bottlenecks in the delivery process, and implement changes that address these issues rather than relying on assumptions.
• Assume significant operational responsibility. You will participate in the Core Infrastructure on-call rotation and be accountable for the reliability of your creations.
• Define the technical strategy for how Primer's engineers design and deploy solutions, while mentoring less experienced engineers throughout the process.
• Enhance the way engineers write code, not merely how they deploy it. Collaborate with product teams to improve the tools, frameworks, and internal APIs they utilize daily, thereby minimizing the challenges associated with feature development at Primer.
• Construct Primer's paved roads. Streamline the application boilerplate that engineers create, establish standards for service construction and configuration, and manage the golden-path tools that enhance efficiency across all teams.
• Operate transparently within a fully distributed team, ensuring that your decisions and trade-offs are visible rather than kept to yourself.
• Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS; strong backgrounds in GCP will also be considered.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes.
• Proficient in infrastructure-as-code as a practical tool, not just a trendy term. While Terraform is preferred, familiarity with Pulumi, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar tools is acceptable. Lack of specific Terraform experience is not a disqualifier.
• Strong competency in CI/CD. You’ve managed the build, test, and deployment workflows and preview environments instead of merely using them.
• A track record of measuring and enhancing delivery performance, utilizing frameworks such as DORA, SPACE, or similar to substantiate your efforts.
• Comfortable taking ownership of production systems and participating in an on-call rotation.
• A solid background in software engineering. You have developed and maintained applications or products, not just infrastructure tools.
• Ability to evaluate what makes code enjoyable to work with, which enables you to create AI and developer tools that engineers genuinely want to use.
• An asynchronous communicator who thrives in a remote, distributed work environment.
• Nice to have:
• Hands-on experience with AI or agent tooling, or direct involvement with LLM-based development workflows. Given that this is an emerging field, genuine curiosity is just as valuable as relevant experience.
• Familiarity with MCP servers and agent integration patterns.
• Background in payments, fintech, or other regulated industries.
• We operate fully remotely and are globally distributed; this has been our norm since inception.
• Attractive share options.
• Unlimited vacation, with a minimum of 25 days required to be taken.
• Access to co-working spaces.
• Opportunities for workations and company retreats.
• Provision of top-notch equipment for your role.
• £500 contribution towards your home office setup.
• A generous learning budget.
• Private medical insurance.
• A wide range of additional perks and benefits (*depending on location).
