Senior Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and typeset interiors for lifestyle, cookbook, children's, and gift books in four colors.

• Manage multiple projects, ranging from 12 to 20, in line with the publishing schedule.

• Collaborate with editorial, production, and art directors from the design concept stage through to typesetting proofs and the creation of print-ready files.

• Take proactive measures to troubleshoot issues and ensure deadlines are met.

• Oversee project management and provide progress updates.

• Edit and color-correct photographs and illustrations as necessary.

• Generate graphs and charts on demand.

• Conduct pre-press operations and prepare print-ready PDFs for printing.

• Gather project files and documents and archive them following established protocols.

• Adapt existing content and implement reprint corrections.

⛳️ Requirements

• An online portfolio is mandatory for consideration.

• Advanced Macintosh computer skills are essential.

• High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite programs is required.

• Strong understanding of typography, including paragraph, character, object, and GREP styles.

• Familiarity with book structural elements and proofreading symbols.

• At least 7 years of professional experience in designing and typesetting book interiors for publishing or a similar high-volume production setting.

• Professional experience in creating layouts for long-form book interiors.

• A Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution in a design field, particularly in interior book design and typography.

• Knowledge of printing and binding techniques.

• Strong understanding of trade book design and contemporary trends.

• Extensive knowledge of long-document production in InDesign.

• High-level expertise in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator on Mac OS.

• Competence in using Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Strong skills in project management.

• Capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work quickly, accurately, and efficiently.

• Analytical, detail-oriented, well-organized, and proactive.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
