Senior Delivery Manager

Posted 1 day ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Enhance and sustain delivery visibility across intricate, dependency-laden projects by monitoring cross-team obstacles, integration risks, and upstream/downstream exposure.

• Analyze the effects of scope alterations, timeline adjustments, and capacity limitations by presenting organized options with clear trade-offs to decision-makers.

• Promote backlog readiness discipline, ensuring that work entering execution is well-defined and mapped for dependencies before it begins.

• Identify and proactively manage delivery risks by surfacing issues, quantifying impacts, and framing resolution pathways for engineering and product leadership.

• Sustain and enhance delivery operating norms that minimize rework, carryover, and execution variability over time.

• Utilize AI tools to expedite operational tasks, including status synthesis, risk narrative development, and backlog readiness summarization, while ensuring human judgment in prioritization and stakeholder decision-making.

• Influence the behavior of engineers and product managers through structured data, fostering accountability and shared clarity on delivery commitments.

• Clearly outline delivery trade-offs by presenting structured options with explicit implications regarding timelines, quality, and capacity.

• Collaborate with Product Managers to enforce readiness standards and safeguard delivery integrity during periods of scope pressure.

• Effectively communicate delivery feasibility and confidence to the engineering team and collaborating Project Managers by providing early warnings when assumptions alter and presenting recovery options accordingly.

• Proactively share production release schedules with the development team, Product Manager, and relevant change advisory processes to ensure team preparedness for releases.

• Maintain technical fluency in the systems your team supports by understanding integration surfaces, API dependencies, and release risks in context.

• Coordinate with engineering, Quality Engineering, architecture, and platform teams to manage cross-functional dependencies and resolve blockers appropriately.

• Apply delivery metrics (e.g., cycle time, throughput, carryover, predictability) as operational signals to drive structural changes in team operations.

• Manage a Kanban-based delivery system for a team balancing planned work with urgent operational demands.

• Balance intake discipline with responsiveness by preserving flow efficiency while protecting planned delivery commitments from reactive work pressures.

• Model the impact of work-in-progress (WIP) and context-switching costs to safeguard team throughput and focus.

• Enhance intake and triage processes that provide structure to interrupt-driven work without introducing bureaucratic overhead.

• Monitor Kanban flow metrics (e.g., lead time, cycle time, and queue depth) to identify bottlenecks and maintain a healthy throughput.

• Collaborate with dependent teams and platform consumers to ensure demand visibility and proactively set clear expectations.

• Manage sprint cadence and iteration health across one or more engineering teams, focusing on commitment reliability and sprint goal integrity.

• Enforce sprint entry discipline by confirming that stories meet sizing and readiness standards before planning commences, and maintaining standards when they do not.

• Track and enhance sprint predictability using carryover, velocity trends, and planning accuracy as signals to adjust team operations.

• Manage scope pressure during active sprints by modeling the impact of new additions or changes and presenting clear trade-off options to the Product Manager before commitments are altered.

• Maintain visibility of cross-sprint dependencies across teams or workstreams, identifying risks and timelines.

• Conduct retrospectives as structured operational reviews by pinpointing systemic delivery friction and ensuring follow-through on changes.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5 to 7 years of experience in delivery management within software engineering teams in a fintech or similarly regulated, technically complex environment.

• Proven ability to influence engineer and product manager behavior through structured approaches, data, and clear framing.

• Demonstrated experience in developing or significantly enhancing delivery systems: reducing carryover, improving commitment reliability, or increasing planning quality through structural modifications.

• Experienced in modeling delivery trade-offs and presenting organized options to leadership.

• Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), encompassing integration complexity, release management, dependency modeling, and cross-team coordination.

• Strong proficiency in using Jira for tracking dependencies, delivery modeling, and gaining operational insights.

• Comfortable operating in API-heavy, integration-dependent backend environments where delivery risk is linked to system interconnections.

• Previous experience managing Kanban-based teams in service-oriented or platform engineering environments.

• Proven use of flow metrics (e.g., lead time, cycle time, WIP) as operational tools for managing team health and throughput on a day-to-day basis.

• Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted tools (LLMs, AI-enhanced Jira workflows, or similar) to enhance delivery throughput, diminish coordination overhead, or accelerate artifact generation with the discernment to know when human review of AI output is necessary before reaching stakeholders.

• Calm and structured approach to ambiguity, with the ability to reset expectations and protect delivery integrity when plans shift.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to clearly frame engineering implications for non-technical stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
