This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Represent insured clients and Grange Insurance in ongoing litigation across the designated state(s).
• Travel as required, including occasional overnight trips.
• Liaise with Grange claims legal staff regarding assigned litigation cases.
• Organize pending and archived litigation files in accordance with House Counsel protocols and records retention standards.
• Engage in quality assurance evaluations of assigned files and house counsel office procedures.
• Support the maintenance and distribution of regular management reports for the house counsel office.
• Aid in training less experienced associate defense attorneys.
• Assist in the training of paralegals and legal secretaries.
• Must hold membership in the Ohio Bar.
• A minimum of five years' experience in insurance defense litigation.
• Proficient in litigating and defending clients in both state and federal courts.
• Capable of handling tort/negligence actions and coverage disputes across designated state(s).
• Experience with personal and commercial lines.
• Familiarity with the civil litigation landscape in Northeast and North-Central Ohio.
• In-depth knowledge of claim values, bodily injury claims, and commercial claims.
• Comprehensive understanding of tort/negligence law, civil procedure, and insurance contracts and their interpretations.
• Demonstrated initiative and adaptability to the demands of trial/litigation offices, civil trial courts, and necessary travel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, legal research, written, and verbal communication skills.
• A valid Ohio state driver's license is required.
• Willingness to travel throughout Northeast/North-Central Ohio, all of Ohio, and Western Pennsylvania.
• Proficient in Windows products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred.
• Familiarity with virtual communication platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is preferred.
• Experience with commercial insurance policies, defending commercial clients, and commercial liability litigation is preferred.
• Admission to the Pennsylvania bar, or the ability to obtain it in the future, is preferred.
• Ability to operate in a paperless environment using Litify and secure AI tools.
