• Oversee the performance, availability, and lifecycle management of Db2 for z/OS subsystems that support high-volume, mission-critical Medicaid and healthcare systems.
• Function within a large-scale data sharing environment characterized by significant distributed (DDF) workloads, stringent audit controls, and 24x7x365 availability requirements.
• Analyze DDF activity, connection pooling, and thread utilization.
• Optimize buffer pools, EDM pool, and memory consumption.
• Troubleshoot locking, latching, and concurrency challenges.
• Detect performance decline and execute corrective measures.
• Offer proactive performance suggestions.
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports utilizing SMF/RMF data.
• Examine CPU usage, transaction volumes, and workload patterns.
• Identify anomalies and potential risks.
• Convert technical metrics into accessible reports for leadership.
• Install and set up Db2 subsystems and related tools.
• Implement RSUs, PTFs, and HIPER maintenance.
• Conduct Db2 version upgrades in line with IPL windows.
• Validate and confirm system stability following upgrades.
• Engage in disaster recovery exercises to guarantee complete system recovery.
• Verify image copies and backup integrity.
• Ensure the recoverability of all critical tablespaces.
• Support audit requirements and maintain documentation.
• Lead root cause analysis for system and performance challenges.
• Investigate DDF spikes, CPU anomalies, and contention problems.
• Collaborate with application, storage, and z/OS teams.
• Interface with IBM support as necessary.
• Create and manage ServiceNow change records.
• Ensure appropriate approvals and scheduling.
• Communicate changes to stakeholders effectively.
• Maintain compliance with production standards.
• Over 10 years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of data sharing and DDF environments.
• Proficiency in SMF/RMF analysis and performance tuning.
• Skilled in SAS and Excel for reporting purposes.
• In-depth understanding of Db2 internals and architecture.
• Familiarity with Omegamon.
• Working knowledge of the following: • ZOS • MVS • SMPE • TSO ISPF • SDSF • IFCID • SQL • EXPLAIN • Cobol • Db2 Connect • Bind • Catalog • Db2 Utilities.
• Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support due to potential outage penalties.
• Capability to work off-hours for maintenance and upgrades.
• Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field.
