Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Assess existing database architectures and propose enhancements to ensure optimal performance and availability.

• Collaborate within agile scrum and kanban frameworks to promote Engineering and support initiatives.

• Assist the engineering team by addressing database outages, aiding in triage, and resolving any database-related challenges.

• Aid the engineering department by reviewing database schemas, partitions, views, and queries, and implementing modifications to boost database performance.

• Oversee and maintain replication between databases, guaranteeing resilience and the capacity to recover from failures (observability platform is already in place).

• Make decisions regarding product selection, design methods, and strategic modeling for AWS and GCP database directions.

• Develop database architecture to support our business continuity plan, including backups, compute, network, and storage development, using Terraform for deployment automation leveraging GitOps.

• Create and evolve a standardized database design architecture that can be easily replicated for new database setups.

• Perform other responsibilities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in working with K8S operators, specifically Zalando and CNPG.

• Experience with Postgres, Kafka (and other distributed event streaming systems), ETLs, and CDC.

• Over 5 years of practical experience in Database Engineering (Postgres preferred).

• More than 5 years of experience in an AWS or GCP cloud environment.

• At least 3 years of high-level programming experience in Python or Go.

• Strong background in database monitoring.

• Extensive experience in database architecture.

• Significant experience in Kubernetes production environments.

• Familiarity with applications that require compliance audits.

• Proven track record in handling production support issues and resolving them promptly.

• Experience in building infrastructure as code using IaC (preferably Terraform).
