Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assess existing database architectures and recommend enhancements to ensure optimal performance and availability.

• Collaborate within agile scrum and kanban frameworks to promote engineering and support initiatives.

• Assist the engineering team by addressing database outages, facilitating triage, and resolving any database-related challenges.

• Aid the engineering team by reviewing database schemas, partitions, views, and queries, and implementing modifications to boost database performance.

• Oversee and manage replication processes between databases, ensuring resilience and the capacity to recover from failures (observability platform is already established).

• Make decisions regarding product selection, design methodologies, and modeling for database strategies on AWS and GCP.

• Develop database architecture to support our business continuity strategy, including backups, compute, networking, and storage development, utilizing Terraform for automated deployment/creation through GitOps.

• Create and advance a unified database design architecture that can be easily duplicated for new database setups.

• Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in working with K8S operators, specifically Zalando and CNPG.

• Knowledgeable in Postgres, Kafka (and other distributed event streaming systems), ETLs, and CDC.

• Over 5 years of hands-on experience in Database Engineering (Postgres preferred).

• More than 5 years of experience in an AWS or GCP cloud setting.

• At least 3 years of high-level programming experience in Python or Go.

• Strong expertise in database monitoring.

• Extensive experience in database architecture.

• Significant experience in a Kubernetes production environment.

• Familiarity with applications that require compliance audits.

• Experience in resolving production support issues swiftly and effectively.

• Skilled in building infrastructure as code using IaC (preferably Terraform).
