Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create cutting-edge database solutions tailored for high-transaction systems.

• Design database schemas that align with business requirements and entities.

• Develop stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and constraints.

• Generate deployment and rollback scripts for database objects.

• Analyze access patterns to enhance indexes, constraints, foreign keys, and queries.

• Diagnose database performance issues and recommend both immediate fixes and long-term strategies.

• Collaborate with architects and mentor developers in advancing the data layer.

• Investigate options and build prototypes prior to integrating new technologies into the tech stack.

• Keep abreast of developments in databases, AWS, microservices, and cloud-native technologies.

• Prototype innovative tools and features for eventual adoption.

• Serve as a subject matter expert and partner with engineering and DevOps teams on data architecture and strategy within AWS.

⛳️ Requirements

• B.S. in Computer Science or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an M.S. degree with 3+ years of experience.

• Over 5 years of practical SQL Server development experience.

• In-depth knowledge of SQL Server, covering triggers, stored procedures, and user-defined functions.

• Strong understanding of SQL Server concurrency features, transactions, and locking mechanisms.

• Exceptional data modeling and schema design abilities, including normalization and denormalization techniques.

• Familiarity with database maintenance best practices, such as index and file management, backups, failure recovery, defragmentation, documentation, disk space analysis, hardware utilization, and automated error notifications.

• Basic SQL Server administration skills, encompassing backups, restores, snapshots, user/role security, and access permissions.

• Experience managing SQL Server in AWS, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server, RDS Custom, or SQL Server on EC2.

• Knowledge of AWS microservices architecture and designing databases for microservice-oriented applications.

• Proven experience in optimizing data access from microservices.

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes, as well as AWS ECS/EKS, in a microservices context.
