Senior Database Administrator, 6 month contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and enhance database schemas and data structures across both SQL and NoSQL platforms.

• Take ownership of data modeling strategies for relational and non-relational databases, choosing the most suitable structures for each application and workload.

• Supervise schema design and governance for legacy systems as well as modern architectures.

• Develop and sustain normalized relational models alongside denormalized and document-oriented data structures.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to convert business and clinical needs into scalable database solutions.

• Administer and manage Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, and associated database platforms.

• Monitor database health, performance, availability, backups, and disaster recovery processes.

• Execute query optimization, index maintenance, partitioning strategies, and capacity planning.

• Diagnose complex database issues and implement lasting solutions.

• Ensure high availability and reliability in production environments.

• Design, review, and oversee schema changes, upgrades, and database migrations across various environments.

• Lead modernization projects involving long-established legacy systems and database transformations.

• Facilitate data synchronization and movement across diverse platforms.

• Collaborate with ETL, ELT, data gateway, and change-data-capture (CDC) processes to maintain data consistency.

• Uphold data integrity across cloud-based and on-premise systems.

• Work together with Infrastructure and Cloud teams to provision, configure, and secure database environments.

• Support cloud-hosted database services within Microsoft Azure.

• Implement database security measures, access governance, and compliance standards.

• Manage user permissions, data access controls, and audit requirements.

• Ensure appropriate backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures are upheld.

• Create and maintain data dictionaries, schema documentation, entity relationship diagrams, and database architecture documentation.

• Establish database governance standards and best practices.

• Ensure schema changes are accurately versioned, documented, and deployed securely.

• Provide technical advice and recommendations regarding database strategy and architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, or Data Platform Engineer.

• Strong experience managing Microsoft SQL Server environments.

• Proficiency with PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational databases.

• Practical experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, or similar document/key-value stores.

• In-depth knowledge of relational and non-relational data modeling.

• Experience in designing and overseeing schema changes and database migrations.

• Background in supporting legacy system modernization and database transformation initiatives.

• Strong skills in SQL query optimization, indexing, and database performance tuning.

• Familiarity with ETL, ELT, data synchronization, or data movement pipelines.

• Understanding of Change Data Capture (CDC) and cross-platform data synchronization techniques.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure database services and cloud-hosted environments.

• Knowledge of backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery protocols.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

• Exceptional attention to detail and documentation practices.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Experience with Azure Cosmos DB at scale.

• Experience in enterprise healthcare, healthcare technology, or regulated industries.

• Experience supporting SaaS products and cloud-native applications.

• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and compliance requirements.

• Familiarity with data warehousing and analytics platforms.
