This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Leveraging your expertise in statistics, healthcare, and ML/AI, you will develop models aimed at uncovering opportunities for our pricing and underwriting teams.
• You will engage in feature engineering, model development, and ongoing model monitoring and maintenance utilizing a diverse array of medical, prescription drug, utilization management, and third-party data.
• In this position, you will collaborate closely with leadership, data scientists, business stakeholders, and engineering partners to deliver comprehensive, well-documented outputs that will strengthen our competitive edge in the market.
• Assist in creating comprehensive analytics that promote top-tier pricing and underwriting practices.
• Implement special projects designed to enhance Commercial Healthcare underwriting capabilities.
• Employ data science and advanced analytics to generate actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders, supporting Cigna's strategic goals.
• Maintain regular communication regarding your work with business stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Keep abreast of the latest analytical tools and techniques, strategizing on how to utilize these tools to modernize our pricing/underwriting organizations.
• Ensure that solutions provide long-term value while also integrating seamlessly with existing processes.
• Test & Learn Pilots: work with business leaders to design, implement, and assess thorough pilots to evaluate new solutions.
• Create models that promote underwriting and actuarial progress by aligning business challenges with potential solutions, such as GLMs, Machine Learning, Clustering, LLMs, or other advanced methodologies.
• 5+ years of direct experience in Data Science within a healthcare-related setting.
• Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and model development.
• Experience in deploying ML/predictive models to production/cloud environments.
• Proficient in Python, SQL, Git, Keras, and TensorFlow.
• Familiarity with common healthcare data, including claims, EHR, and laboratory data.
• Ability to conduct peer reviews.
• Capability to manage a project from start to finish, including scoping, ideation, development, and production.
• Skill in independently delivering clear and well-structured presentations for both technical and business audiences.
• A Master’s or PhD in STEM-related fields is preferred.
