Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Delivering high-quality data sets to the organization’s data consumers through the curation, consolidation, and manipulation of diverse large-scale sources (terabytes and increasing).

• Creating robust data pipelines and ETL processes that operate with terabytes of data on leading platforms, including Snowflake and BigQuery.

• Enhancing our enterprise data marts by developing efficient and scalable data models that serve the organization.

• Collaborating with analytics, data science, CRM, and machine learning teams to provide comprehensive data solutions.

• Ensuring integrity, validation, and documentation for the enterprise data mart.

• Managing the SLA and dependencies of the data pipelines.

• Producing technical documentation for data solutions and participating in design reviews.

• Addressing data pipeline failures and implementing effective anomaly detection.

• Engaging with various teams, from analytics to product owners and front-end developers, to track solutions and address technical challenges.

• Leading medium to large projects by drafting technical specifications and planning project timelines.

• Mentoring junior team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• A BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

• Over 6 years of experience in data engineering or general software development.

• Proven experience with large datasets (terabyte scale and growing) and familiarity with various technologies and tools related to databases and big data:

• Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake).

• Relational databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL/MySQL).

• Extensive experience in data design and modeling.

• Strong background in developing complex ETL processes from concept to execution.

• Advanced skills in query languages and data exploration, with a track record of writing complex SQL queries across large datasets.

• Experience in systems performance and optimization.

• Proficiency in functional programming in Python or a similar language.

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles.

• A self-directed, organized, and detail-oriented individual with a strong sense of ownership.

• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with both business and technical teams.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

• Demonstrated technical leadership in planning and executing medium to large projects while meeting challenging deadlines.

• Strong interpersonal skills, a keen curiosity, and a passion for solving complex problems.

• Capability to simplify complex issues into manageable solutions.

• Experience working directly with end users to address technical challenges.

• Comfortable taking ownership of the entire data vertical and working independently.

• Ability to mentor and assist junior team members.
