Senior Cost Manager – Quantity Surveyor, Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary, daily client liaison for cost management services.

• Support extensive hyperscale data center campuses and critical construction initiatives.

• Estimate and negotiate change orders during the construction process.

• Create and present final cost plans and estimates.

• Collaborate with design services teams and general contractors to review cost estimates.

• Reconcile changes and ensure the accuracy of contractor data.

• Collect project status updates and prepare revisions to cost estimates.

• Draft written comments and executive summaries regarding contractor submissions.

• Coordinate cost information from NPA, subcontractors, suppliers, and A/Es.

• Influence engineering priorities based on cost implications.

• Proactively resolve scheduling challenges with minimal oversight.

• Oversee cost checks, valuations, auditing, and validation processes.

• Manage post-contract cost variances, change control, contingencies, commitments, and cost impact tracking.

• Prepare funding data presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions.

• Develop cost plans and estimates aligned with design milestones.

• Offer commercial insights for design optioneering and value engineering.

• Review pricing from contractors and subcontractors while leading client-side negotiations.

• Conduct quantity surveying, cost control, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.

• Generate monthly cost reports for client presentations.

• Negotiate and finalize accounts.

• Compile built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.

• Identify, coach, and mentor emerging talent.

• Manage commission margins, fee/resource forecasts, and financial reporting through internal software.

• Implement business management systems, delivery methodologies, and tools.

• Comply with relevant SOX control responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Willingness and ability to travel and provide on-site project support, generally 25-50% of the time.

• Must be based physically in the United States.

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related construction field.

• At least 5-7 years of pertinent experience in construction cost management.

• RICS accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.

• Experience leading cost management on medium to large, medium- to high-complexity construction projects.

• Preferably experienced in data center, mission-critical, advanced technology, industrial, semiconductor, manufacturing, power, or major infrastructure settings.

• Experience with hyperscale data center campuses, mission-critical facilities, large-scale capital programs, or highly technical facilities is preferred.

• Construction consultancy experience is highly desirable.

• Knowledge of construction industry technical matters, procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.

• Strong communication skills.

• Capability to function effectively in a client-facing role.
