
Senior Cost Manager – Quantity Surveyor, Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Serve as the primary daily client liaison for cost management services.
• Assist in large-scale, mission-critical industrial and campus-style construction programs.
• Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Develop and present final cost plans and revised cost plans at design milestones.
• Evaluate design and contractor cost estimates and reconcile any changes.
• Collect project status information and prepare updates for cost estimates.
• Draft written feedback on general contractor submissions, including executive summaries.
• Coordinate cost data from owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams.
• Communicate engineering priorities based on cost implications.
• Proactively address scheduling issues with minimal supervision.
• Oversee cost checks, valuations, auditing, and validation processes.
• Manage cost impacts, contingency, commitment tracking, variances, and change control.
• Prepare funding data presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions.
• Provide commercial insights for design optioneering and value engineering efforts.
• Review contractor and subcontractor pricing and lead negotiations from the client side.
• Conduct quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.
• Generate monthly cost reports for client presentations.
• Negotiate and finalize accounts.
• Compile built-cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.
• Identify, coach, and mentor emerging talent.
• Manage commission margin levels, fee/resource forecasts, and financial reporting using internal software.
• Implement internal business management systems, delivery methodologies, and tools.
• Comply with applicable SOX control responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related construction discipline.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.
• RICS accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.
• Experience leading cost management efforts on medium to large-scale, medium- to high-complexity construction projects.
• Experience supporting mission-critical projects in advanced technology, data centers, industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, or large campus-style developments is preferred.
• Strong preference for candidates with construction consultancy experience.
• Solid understanding of technical aspects of the construction industry, including procurement methods, value management, and value engineering.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Comfortable working in a client-facing capacity.
• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness and ability to travel to the Columbus-area project site approximately once per month.
• Ability to work remotely from Ohio or neighboring states.
• Proficient in using internal software and business management systems.
• Must comply with applicable SOX controls.
