This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Overseeing the Japan Play Pass and games marketing strategy in close partnership with the US Publishing team and its integrated marketing division.
• Fostering Play Pass subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention through comprehensive marketing campaigns and performance-driven marketing.
• Selecting, contracting, and managing a Japan-based marketing agency for Play Pass and games marketing, subject to approval from the Japan GM.
• Planning and executing events focused on games and community initiatives as required.
• Establishing and managing a Japan Performance Marketing function, with intentions to hire a dedicated Performance Marketing specialist as the business expands.
• Collaborating on Japan’s unified brand strategy with the Japan Hardware Marketing Manager, delivering joint recommendations to the Japan General Manager.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in marketing, with extensive experience in the Japanese consumer market, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership position.
• Demonstrated success in building and leading marketing functions or teams, with experience in hiring, managing, and developing direct reports.
• Proven expertise in subscription marketing, encompassing subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies in Japan.
• Practical experience in performance marketing, including paid search, paid social, and programmatic campaigns, coupled with strong analytical skills and a history of optimizing for ROI.
• Experience collaborating with a US publishing or content team as a Japan-side marketing counterpart, adapting global go-to-market strategies for local implementation.
• Proven ability to select, contract, and manage marketing agencies in Japan from start to finish.
• In-depth understanding of Japan’s digital marketing landscape, gaming culture, and consumer behavior across gaming, family, and educational segments.
• Strong skills in cross-functional collaboration; adept at co-owning brand strategy with a peer, managing up to a General Manager, and leading down to a future team member.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese (both written and verbal); strong English skills for collaboration with the US Publishing team.
