This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +6 more states.
• In the role of Distribution Planning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the enhancement, expansion, improvement, maintenance, and automation of power distribution systems.
• You will conduct vital protection and coordination studies, troubleshoot issues related to substations and multiple feeders, and carry out scenario-based planning studies to propose effective solutions.
• A significant aspect of your responsibilities will be to develop medium- and long-term distribution plans that emphasize load relief, capacity, and reliability.
• You will design and uphold computer models along with their associated databases for electric distribution systems, performing load forecasts that encompass DER, energy storage, and new electrification-related loads.
• Collaboration with internal teams, including transmission, substation, and distribution design teams, as well as the SCADA Automation team, will be essential to ensure smooth integration and operational efficiency.
• Finally, you will have the opportunity to work autonomously while also mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers, promoting a culture of ongoing learning and development.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in electric utility planning is necessary.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following software: CYME, Synergi, Milsoft Windmil, or ASPEN Power Flow.
• Experience addressing grid modernization challenges, which includes FLISR, DER, system impact studies, energy storage, electrification, protection & control, sectionalizing, and fire mitigation studies.
• A solid understanding of the basics and fundamentals of Protective Device Coordination and TCC review.
• Willingness to travel up to 5% as needed to support clients and projects.
• EIT/FE certification is required.
• Preferred qualifications include a PE License.
• Familiarity with software automation and scripting is advantageous.
• Experience in creating protective device settings files is beneficial.
• Knowledge of Arc Flash analysis and relevant standards such as IEEE 1584, OSHA 1910.269 App E, and NFPA 70E is desirable.
• Proficiency in developing data analysis tools using Excel, Python, or other major data analysis platforms is preferred.
• Understanding of 8760 simulations in LoadSEER or comparable software is valuable.
• Familiarity with IEEE 1547 is a plus.
